EquiFuel™ contains pure beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucan* that directly modulates the Immune System. An efficient Immune System is essential to aid in suppressing bacterial and viral infections, maintaining a healthy status, increasing stamina and resistance to stress. beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucan has been shown to maintain the Immune System at peak efficiency. After a few weeks of EquiFuel™, you will notice that your horse will be more active and energetic. In addition, there will be increased endurance.
Scientific studies in humans and animals have shown that beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucan enhances the ability of the Immune System to combat infections. EquiFuel™ has been fortified to supply optimal levels of vitamins and minerals to meet the physiological needs of the equine athlete. It is supplemented with the antioxidant Vitamin E that is necessary for muscle and nerve function. Vitamin E interacts with Selenium to aid in maintaining normal muscle function and preventing muscular diseases.
EquiFuel™ contains minerals and vitamins essential to the performance horse. These include Selenium that, together with Vitamin E, aids in the reduction of toxins and maintains the cell membrane integrity by preventing the destructive action of free radicals. Biotin, a B-complex vitamin, plays an essential role in many metabolic functions and is beneficial for hoof integrity.
EquiFuel™ also contains optimal levels of sodium and chloride, key electrolytes required in large quantity by the performance horse to maintain normal acid-base balance in the blood, efficient muscle contraction, and normal osmotic pressure; cobalt necessary for synthesis of Vitamin B12 by intestinal flora, which, in conjunction with iron, is necessary for hemoglobin synthesis, thus preventing anemia; copper, which is necessary for the development of bone, cartilage, and the synthesis of elastin - a key component of blood vessels.
Vitamin D, included in EquiFuel™, is important, especially for the horse that is not sufficiently exposed to the sun. Vitamin D is essential for maintaining bone health and, in conjunction with beta glucan, activates the cells of the adaptive Immune System.
Equine athletes are subject to joint stress, which over time can damage and degrade cartilage in the joints. To help preserve the joints and rebuild cartilage, EquiFuel™ has been supplemented with Glucosamine Hydrochloride, MSM, and Chondroitin Sulfate. In a clinical trial, 25 horses with osteoarthritis showed improvement within two weeks of supplementation with Chondroitin and Glucosamine. In another study, supplementation with Glucosamine and Chondroitin increased length of stride and decreased lameness. EquiFuel™ contains Lysine, an essential amino acid that is not always present in sufficient amounts in the horse’s diet. Lysine is essential for normal growth and aids postexercise recovery by reducing blood lactate and loweringheart rate.
In a study of 17 mares, none of the foals had neonatal diarrhea, and none required plasma administration. In another study, horses that were vaccinated with EHV-1 and administered EquiFuel™ showed a 300% increase in EHV-1 IgG titers compared to controls.
